The bottom feet of handmade Hermès bags are all manually fitted. Within the Shebag workshop, these bottom studs are firmly secured onto the base leather without causing any damage to the material.
Hermès bag bottom studs adopt an integrated structure combining screws and riveting, paired with multi-layer composite base leather and reinforcing adhesive. Every procedure including positioning, hole punching, fastening and finishing is executed with stringent precision to achieve superior sturdiness and refined tactile quality.
Genuine studs are crafted from solid pure copper or stainless steel instead of zinc alloy, featuring polished or brushed finishes with palladium-plated or gold-plated surfaces that deliver outstanding wear resistance and structural stability. Designed as split screw assemblies consisting of male studs and female screws, most styles are equipped with four studs fixed at four corners, while certain designs feature an additional central fifth stud. The stud head measures approximately 8 to 10 millimeters in diameter with a height ranging from 6 to 8 millimeters, and the screw shank has a diameter of 3 millimeters, perfectly matching standard 3mm hollow punches for hole drilling.
Prior to installation, thorough pre-treatment is conducted on the base material as a core concealed craftsmanship procedure. The composite base is formed by laminating three layers of materials, including outer leather such as Togo and Epsom leather, middle reinforcing layers made of leather board or rigid PE sheets for enhanced firmness and even force distribution, and inner lining leather. The overall thickness of the assembled base reaches around 3 to 4 millimeters. Precise cross marking is implemented for corner positioning with a positioning error controlled within 0.5 millimeters. Three-layer through holes are vertically drilled using 3mm hollow punches to ensure smooth hole edges free of burrs and leather cracks.
All installation operations follow original factory standardized protocols. The male stud is inserted outward from the outer leather side with the screw shank extending out from the inner base side. Nylon anti-loose gaskets are fitted onto exposed screw shanks, and anaerobic thread locking adhesive is applied to the inner wall of female screws to prevent loosening and abnormal noise during long-term use. Fastening is completed with professional screwdrivers under torque ranging from 0.8 to 1.0 newton meters, ensuring seamless fitting between stud heads and outer leather surfaces without inclination. Uniform height of all studs is strictly verified to keep the bag steadily placed without shaking. Excess parts of screw shanks are trimmed flat and finely polished, and protective patches are attached on the inner base to avoid abrasion on inner linings and uncomfortable contact.
Strict quality control standards serve as the core distinction between authentic products and replicas. The diagonal positioning deviation of four bottom studs is limited within 1 millimeter to maintain regular rectangular layout. Zero clearance is maintained between studs and leather surfaces with no indentation or bulging issues realized via composite base structure and balanced fastening torque. The dual protection mechanism combining thread locking adhesive and nylon gaskets effectively secures the fittings free from loosening for three to five years under daily use. All metal studs maintain consistent mirror polishing or brushed textures with smooth and burr-free edges.
Most counterfeit productions present obvious technical defects. Single-layer leather structure lacking intermediate reinforcing supports tends to cause surface sagging and stud detachment. Oversized or skewed drilled holes result in unstable studs and visible assembly gaps. The absence of thread locking adhesive and anti-loose gaskets leads to loose connections and screw loss in a short period. Low-grade zinc alloy hardware is prone to deformation, color fading and inferior overall texture, failing to meet premium luxury manufacturing criteria.
