The side leather panels are folded outward with fully exposed stitching along the bag’s exterior, differing from the traditional interior stitching that conceals all seams. This Sellier technique demands far higher standards for leather firmness, cutting precision, and adhesive craftsmanship. Since natural Togo leather is inherently soft and supple, a high-density leather reinforcement layer is applied to the inner leather surface during production. This effectively prevents sagging, ensuring the 25cm bag maintains sharp, right-angle corners permanently without bulging or deformation after long-term use.

Every stitch is handmade with authentic French saddle double-needle waxed thread. The two needles penetrate the same hole from opposite sides, creating a signature 45-degree diagonal stitch pattern with a uniform stitch spacing of 0.8 to 1 millimeter for neat and symmetrical exterior seams. Given the greater tension on Sellier-stitch side panels, reinforced four-needle backstitching is applied at stress points including the handle bases, bottom corners, and flap connections. Repeated locking stitches at each bearing point prevent loose or broken threads, a level of durability and precise tension impossible to replicate by machine stitching.

Finished in exclusive 8F Gris Etain through layered aniline dip dyeing with three separate staining and color-fixing procedures, the original leather pores and texture are fully preserved. The tone presents cool charcoal grey under neutral lighting and subtle warm taupe undertones in warm light, delivering rich, transparent grey layers without dullness, blue undertones, or muddy discoloration. A thin matte topcoat eliminates heavy plastic coating, allowing the leather to gently brighten with use without peeling or fading. Both sides of each leather panel maintain identical grey tones for seamless color-matched assembly.

All exposed leather edges, including folded side seams, handles, flaps, base stud pads, and lock leather pockets, undergo eight layers of water-based edge oil coating. Each layer is low-temperature dried and wet-sanded with fine sandpaper, forming a smooth arched edge with a subtle central curve and flat sides for a comfortable scratch-free finish. Custom light grey-brown edge oil perfectly blends with the Gris Etain leather tone without harsh black contrast. The thickened folded side edges receive widened edge treatment to prevent cracking, peeling, and exposed leather layers. Precise finishing eliminates oil accumulation, bead marks, uneven transitions, and rough edges at intricate joints such as handle roots, panel corners, and triangular flap cuts.

Fitted with premium palladium silver hardware exclusive to Gris Etain, all hardware pieces are forged from solid brass with multi-layer palladium electroplating, presenting a sophisticated cool matte silver finish rather than glaring bright silver. The deeply hand-engraved “HERMÈS PARIS” lettering features uniform stroke depth and clean edges with no overflow, showcasing a premium handcrafted texture known in the industry as “beach engraving”. The one-piece integrated leather handle is internally filled with soft leather padding and repeatedly hammered and shaped by hand to achieve symmetrical balanced curvature. Most ordinary manufacturers only apply interior stitching for soft Togo leather without reinforcement. Shebag’s custom Sellier construction adds one extra reinforced leather layer and three additional bonding and pressing processes, increasing total working hours by 40%. Uniform folded width and precise hand punching alignment for exterior side seams require extreme craftsmanship, with minor stitch deviations easily ruining the bag’s symmetrical structured silhouette.
