The Evelyne is a versatile commuter tote and crossbody bag constructed with the Retourne inside-out stitching technique and crafted from fine-grain Togo calf leather. The entire production process features hand-cut leather and handcrafted saddle stitching. Made of European full-grain baby bull calf leather processed with a combined chrome and vegetable tanning method, Togo leather features irregular lychee-style fine grains on the surface. With a Shore A hardness of 45 degrees, it is scratch-resistant, structurally rigid, and resistant to deformation and sagging, perfectly suiting the open-top design of the Evelyne bag. Unlike the soft large-grain Clemence leather, Togo leather is the official preferred material for Evelyne bags to maintain a structured silhouette. For leather selection and grading at Shebag, craftsmen manually inspect entire leather hides to eliminate sections with insect bites, scars and wrinkles. Only the uniform central grain area of the hide is used for the large panels of Evelyne bags, with merely one to two bags producible from a single full hide. The leather is then softened and color-balanced via 48-hour low-temperature oil infiltration to unify leather tension and prevent inconsistent hardness across cut pieces. Precise thickness calibration is implemented throughout production: the main bag body measures 1.4 to 1.5 millimeters in thickness, the double-layered shoulder strap reaches 3 millimeters after lamination, and edge perforation areas are thinned to 0.9 millimeters to avoid bulging stitches. Low-temperature hot air pressing is applied for pre-shaping to eliminate the natural curvature of the leather and ensure zero dimensional errors in all cut components. The back of the leather is coated with a water-based resin sealant following official Hermès craftsmanship standards to prevent powder shedding and inner lining staining.

Adopting the Retourne inside-out cutting and stitching logic, the Evelyne bag avoids exposed Sellier topstitching. All leather panels are joined grain-to-grain, and the finished bag is flipped inside out through the top opening to conceal all stitching inside for a clean exterior appearance. Core tools for saddle stitching consist of 4-millimeter diamond chisels that create diagonal diamond pinholes distinct from mechanical round holes, laying the foundation for diagonal saddle stitching. Uniform 18-degree diagonal herringbone stitching is presented on both sides of the leather with symmetrical front and back textures.
